Behold, Garand Magus, a 2D Platformer Shooter about a wizard... With a gun!

This game will be available on Newgrounds — where you're reading this — and Game Jolt!

Garand Magus is a game being developed by me, myself and I, under the Celestial Games license.

The Premise

Some new ruler, the Twilight Empress Kurayami, has prejudice towards wizards for goofy reasons. And thus, she made laws removing most of said wizards' rights; put it simply, dictatorial assumption. Because of this, many wizards went into hiding to avoid consequences, while one lil' wisp was oblivious of all this.

The main/title character, Tamira Kami, is the one who was oblivious of these new laws, but soon learns of them after having their mystical family recipe publication be rejected by their local bochord. The librarian told them of the newly proclaimed laws, and Tamira declares her majesty Kurayami a tryant. They then wish to thwart their tyranny.

The librarian, hearing this because Tamira went on about the tyranny right at his post, the register, he lends the wisp wizard a map that'll lead them to an ancient Wizards' Sanctum. There, Tamira can uncover the locations of the Chaos Fragments, parts of an ancient Chaos Relic that was once used to rid the world of a dictator way back then during 'ye olden times'. With this Chaos Relic, Tamira can rid the world and free the other wizards of the Twilight Empress.

And thus, Tamira embarks on their journey...

Some Features

  • Play as Tamira Kami, the mage named for their mystical M1 Garand!
  • Playable on Newgrounds and Game Jolt! Wowies! (Yes, I do know this was already mentioned)
  • "Platformer and shooter mechanics? Is this Metroid?" Nah; unlike Metroid, you can't get lost easily because this game uses levels instead of one huge maze of a map!
  • Cast much more than just fireball upon your foes; cast your trusty rifle upon 'em at any distance, ranging from point-blank to sniper range!
  • Venture through the many realms in search of the legendary pieces of the Chaos Relic so you can use it to rid the world of a newfangled tyrant!
  • Journey deep into hidden dungeons to uncover hoards upon hoards of mystical treasure!
  • Duel against almighty bosses, most of which are guarding the Chaos Fragments!
  • Listen to a kickass soundtrack while playing — composed by Waterflame, Cyercin, ParagonX9 and others! (CC terms are taken into consideration for the songs with said CC terms, and I am currently waiting for Cycerin's permission to use his music)
  • Defeat her majesty once and for all, and free your magical comrades of her dictatorial anti-wizard laws...

If you want to stay up-to-date on the game's development, follow it on Game Jolt! Don't worry, updates and devlogs will still be posted here on Newgrounds, but Game Jolt is recommended. Why? I dunno, I can't think of a viable reason right now other than because yes.

Other than that, see y'all in the first devlog, folks!
